Mercedes-AMG Quietly Facelifts the CLA45

With only 3 years of production under its belt, the Mercedes-AMG CLA45 gets a minor facelift with subtle updates to make the CLA45 even better. We test drove and reviewed the original CLA45 over in Las Vegas a couple of years ago and have grown to love the little four door coupe from Affalterbach, and it’s great to see Mercedes-AMG continue to improve on what is already an excellent car.

Starting with the exterior, the CLA45 gets upgraded aerodynamics in the form of an upgraded front bumper with the classic AMG A-Wing design, rear diffuser insert with 4 vertical fins, as well as a lip spoiler on the trunk. An optional aerodynamics package adds a larger front splitter, additional winglets, and a lip spoiler.

Performance wise, last year’s upgraded drivetrain consisting of a 25hp bump (now to 381hp) along with the shorter gear ratios installed in the AMG 7 speed DCT improves on the original CLA45’s performance. 0 to 100km/h now arrives in only 4.2 seconds using the RACE START launch control system.

The 2017 CLA45 arrives in showrooms this fall. Check out our gallery below and let us know what you think of the upgrades.

Mercedes CLA45 AMG gets a new Look for New York

Mercedes has given their ever popular CLA45 AMG a refresh for 2017 which they will debut at the upcoming New York Auto Show. The CLA vehicle across all of the trim lines is a very popular car among Mercedes buyers. The physical refresh will be giving the CLA a more subdued appearance.

The front facia is a little bit softer around the edges than the previous version with matte titanium grey color coding in the splitters. However, the bumper does get some rather aggressive canards which are framed in a gloss black paint. The rear receives a revised diffuser that now has added aero via four extra fins. AMG is offering an aggressive aero package which adds a low front splitter, additional canards and a rear spoiler.

The CLA45 AMG will continue to use a 2.0L turbo engine that produces 375 hp and 350 lb/ft of torque delivering power to the wheels via a seven-speed automatic.

The refreshed CLA45 AMG will debut at the upcoming New York Auto Show and will hit the showrooms before the end of the year.

2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA45 AMG Review

The CLA45 is an interesting vehicle, poised as an entry level 4 door sports sedan coupe yet styled much like the CLS coupe in the higher end of the Mercedes-Benz lineup, it’s an expensive looking vehicle for very little money. Starting at $49k, it’s a bargain for an AMG, but unlike the others, it’s outfitted with a 2.0L 4-cylinder engine instead of the mighty V8’s of its bigger brothers. So how does the baby AMG stack up?

With 355hp under the hood and fitted with 4matic AWD, the CLA45 is no slouch. Using the launch control “Race Start” mode, there is no struggle for traction, the car launches without much drama, rocketing to 60mph in a scant 4.5 seconds. Even though the 4matic system is really a front biased setup, the AMG wizards have done wonders to this setup, unlike its competitors. There is not a hint of torque steer as it puts all the power to the ground.

Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA) Preview – Mercedes-Benz

Mercedes-Benz is set to unveil several new cars and concepts at the Frankfurt Motor Show this week. The AMG variant of the all new S-Class debuts as the S63 AMG. Fitted with the tried and true 5.5L V8 twin turbo powerplant, the S63 pumps out 577hp and 663 lb-ft of torque. Weighing 250lbs less than its predecessor, the S63 propels itself to 100km/h in 4 seconds flat, thanks to its 4matic drivetrain and MCT sports transmission.

Along with the S63 AMG, Mercedes-Benz is introducing the S500 Plug-in Hybrid, which averages a staggering 3L/100km of consumption. A 107hp electric motor is paired to a new 3.0L V6 Twin Turbo engine with 328hp, bringing total power output of the S500 Hybrid to 436hp, and 0-100km/h sprints of 5.5 seconds. This new V6 engine will also power next year’s C400 model, a direct competitor to BMW’s 335. The biggest difference with the S500 Plug-in Hybrid is the ability to charge by plugging in the vehicle.

New York: Mercedes-Benz AMG unveils the CLA45 AMG

The time has finally come. The much anticipated CLA45 AMG is finally here at the New York International Auto show, fully undisguised, in person to see what the fuss is all about. The CLA class is a huge undertaking by Mercedes-AMG, a huge departure for the luxury German Brand. A front wheel drive platform with optional AWD (a first for the brand in the US), and a price point to reach a much younger demographic, it’s been a highly anticipated model by the Generation Y crowd, as well as our forum members.

Here at Beyond, we’re performance enthusiasts. Like Ricky Bobby, we want to go fast, so we’ll be focusing more on the CLA45 AMG model. Up close and in person, the car looks like a shrunken down CLS63 AMG. The “4 door coupe” styling is a little upscale compared to the competition, which is what makes this car so attractive. In fact, by offering the 4 door coupe concept to the CLA, Mercedes-Benz has pretty much defined a completely new segment. The 4 passenger seating maximizes room for the rear passengers, allowing you and 3 friends to ride in style and luxury. The most attractive feature, however, is the price. Starting at $48,375, this brings the AMG brand to a huge new audience and target market.
