On Superbowl Sunday, we got a chance to see Kate Upton and several other celebrities show off the new Mercedes Benz CLA Class in the CLA Superbowl commercial. While the CLA made it’s unofficial debut at the Detroit Auto Show, what was missing from the event was the upcoming AMG version, which is the version us gearheads are patiently waiting for since the unveil. Mercedes-Benz has confirmed that the CLA45 AMG will make it’s official debut at the New York International Auto Show.

Packed with a rumored 345hp, the 2.0L turbocharged motor has been thoroughly redesigned by the folks over at Mercedes-Benz High Performance Powertrains, the engine division responsible for their Formula 1 engines, the engine pushes out 173hp/L at a staggering 26psi of boost. Coupled to the F1 inspired engine is the all-new 7 speed dual clutch gearbox, and in AMG guise, connects the rear wheels for an AWD 4matic platform to help put the power to the ground.

The 7 speed dual clutch gearbox, an all-new in house transmission, will feature Controlled Efficiency, Sport, Sport+, and Manual modes to deliver seamless shifts, and aggressive rev-matched downshifts to add to the driving experience. The RS Race Start mode will also be included in the CLA45 AMG. There is no center diff with the 4matic setup, the new transmission was designed from the beginning to offer AWD options, and the PTU is integrated into the transmission, directly connecting the rear drive shaft. In the CLA45 AMG, 60% of the power is distributed to the rear wheels for a RWD handling bias.

On the suspension side, the CLA45 AMG will sport beefier springs and shocks, bigger antiroll bars, and larger Brembo brakes. The car will ride on new 19″ AMG wheels specifically designed for this car, sporting 235/35-19 sized tires.

No official price tag has been announced, but sources suggest that the CLA45 AMG will start around $43,000 US. That’s a lot of car for the money, and excellent news for the gearheads.
