Water Main Break at Crowchild Trail South Calgary (Updated)
Posted by: Shelton Kwan onDecember 9th, 2012
Prepare for traffic snarls around Crowchild Trail South for the next few days. A 24 inch water main broke near Flanders Avenue late last night, closing down southbound Crowchild Trail between Bow Trail and 33 Avenue in the SW. Northbound Crowchild has now been re-opened.
It is unknown when the rest of the lanes will re-open. The repair will require the road to be dug up, and it could take several days. The break is blamed on the cold weather. The last time a water main broke on Crowchild (at the exact same spot coincidentally) it took 4 days to fix so this will likely extend into the work week commute.
Driving into the area Monday morning, the bridge across Bow Trail past Kensington Drive is gridlocked as southbound drivers make their way towards the Bow Trail west detour. Drivers are advised to find alternate routes for the next few days.
