VW Edges Out BMW For 2009 Engine of The Year Award
June 17th, 2009
VW 1.4L TSI - International Engine of The Year
The 1.4L twin-charged TSI motor earned 354 points (just 4 more than BMW’s 3.0L Twin Turbo) to capture the Engine of The Year award for 2009. The VW victory prevented a 3 year sweep of the award by BMW and comes at a perfect time as many people are increasingly looking for smaller engines with better fuel economy. The engine also took home the award for Green Engine of the Year and won the 1.0L to 1.4L category.

HA GUYZ VW’Z SUK CUZ THEY GOT TOO MANY ELECTRIKUL PROBLEMS.
VW continues to put out quality world class products time after time. Can’t believe so many people brush them off so quickly without even giving them a try.

Well if this works like my Twin Charge set up on my last car it will be a fun little ride.. go huge on the turbo for awesome top end and still have the pull of a roots supercharger down low/off the line..
Cant wait to see one in person
Its great to see that VW is giving other makers a run for their money and even the big boys like BMW, I just love VW and I even own one, maybe thats why I sound a like biased :)
i’ve just heard way too many stories of people buying VW’s and can’t get ride of them fast enough. the never ending rattles, major components that continue to be replace and still fail.
My brother is huge into VW but it still has all the qwerks as every other. infact he’s driving around on 5 cylinders right now.
fact is they have a huge amount of ingenuity in their motors (VR6, TDI, TSI) but the refinement of the vehicle overall is far from competitive.
The results for Engine of the Year Awards 2009 should be subjected to severe auditing from independent sources.
I will only name 1 category where the results are simply outrageous to an extent far beyond comprehension: The Green Engine award.
The jury had several cars to choose from, and two nominees were the VW TSI and the new Prius 3G (3rd generation).
Having:
The VW with 174 hp, 6.2 L/100 km and 144 g/km CO2;
The Toyota with 136 hp, 3.9 L/100 km and 89 g/km CO2
The jury says the car which has:
+30% horsepower, 63% more fuel consumption, 62% more CO2 emissions
is the greenest car… yeah… right… is this for real!?!?!
The general public demands a general inquiry to this Jury votes right now!
This is a shameful representation of how strong lobbies can go.
I feel sick to the stomach reading this year’s awards.
Shame on the jury!
I’mnot suprised at all with the perfomance of VW in that matter… I drive a Passat TDI and a VW Eurovan and i just love both of my cars Of course there is no perfection on this world but i would never see myself driving a Japenese or American car, and i will never do!
