Volkswagen’s GTI Clubsport Sets Nurburging Record

Nurburging lap records is the bragging rights for all manufacturers. There’s a number of classes you can select to participate in, so Volkswagen brought out their all new Golf GTI Clubsport S to have their try at the front wheel drive production car record. Well, as the saying goes, they came, they saw, they conquered setting a blistering record lap time of 7 minutes, 49.21 seconds.

The GTI Clubsport S was designed with one purpose in mind, track time! The car is 66 pounds lighter than the regular GTI Clubsport thanks in part to a light weight battery, and light weight manual transmission. Unsprung weight at each corner is lightened by an additional 22 pounds with the use of aluminum brake covers. Light weight wheels at each corner continue the weight saving theme. The Clubsport S also packs a hefty 305hp and 280lb/ft of torque which helps around the track. Going fast also requires a balance to slow down when you need to and thanks to special brake pads the GTI Clubsport does that very well.

The Golf GTI Clubsport S will be produced in very limited numbers, 400 to be precise. So if you are lucky enough to get them in your country, Canada and the US are not among the lucky ones, you better grab one quick.
