Two New 2014 Kia Models, Forte Sedan and SorentoPosted by: Shelton Kwan onNovember 29th, 2012
Here’s the 2014 Kia Forte Sedan in the flesh for the first time in North America. Known as the K3 Saloon in other markets, the Forte Sedan replaces the outgoing model by growing slightly in size (30mm longer, 5mm wider, and 25mm lower), making it look more aggressive than it’s predecessor. With a wider wheelbase, passenger room grows for the entry level compact sedan.
Kia also revealed an updated version of the Sorento mid-sized crossover. Only after three years of production the Sorento is getting an all new chassis that is 18% stiffer, a new 3.3L V6 gasoline direct injection (GDI) engine and an all-new interior with an updated infotainment system. Fleet fuel efficiency has been addressed by all automakers here at the LA Auto Show and Kia is no exception.
The 2014 Sorento has been updated with a 3.3L V6 GDI engine that produces 290hp and 252ft/lb. The new V6 is available on the LX and EX but comes standard on the SX and SX Limited. The 2.4-liter GDI four cylinder returns, now as standard equipment in the LX and EX with 191hp and 181 lb/ft of torque. The hydraulic power steering has been dropped for an electric version to improve efficiency.
All that power is normally routed to the front wheels but can be sent to all four using an enhanced Torque on Demand all wheel drive system that seamlessly directs power to the corner that has the most traction and now includes the benefit of a torque vectoring system Kia calls the Torque Vectoring Cornering Control (TVCC)–imagine that.
Kia also brought along the DC Heroes themed cars that we showed you in our Kia Booth Tour from SEMA 2012. Kia is raising awareness for the “We Can Be Heroes” campaign dedicated to helping fight hunger in Africa.
