Porsche Makes a Big Deal Over AWD, 911 Targa 4

Seriously, they held a press conference with the Targa 4 and Targa 4S on the main stage. There was fanfare and even a dramatic unveiling with two models. Most of us thought the AWD Targas were already out. Here’s some pictures of a car you’ve already seen. Hey Porsche, stop wasting my time.

Oh, and turn up the AC in your booth. Sweatin’ balls in there.

World Premiere Of Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport

Based on the Cayman GT4, Porsche Motorsport has built a near-standard racing version dubbed the Cayman GT4 Clubsport. While it was announced last month, we are seeing it for the first time here at the 2015 LA Auto Show. Under the hood is the same 3.8L flat-six that is in the street legal version, but Porsche has ditched the manual transmission and replaced it with a double clutch transmission and have paired it with a mechanical rear locking differential. The Clubsport borrows the front suspension setup from the 911 GT3 Cup and the brakes have been upgraded with 380mm steel brakes. Completing the racing version of the Cayman GT4 is a roll cage and bucket seats featuring six-point harnesses. For those of you wondering, the Clubsport weighs about 90 lbs lighter than the standard fare Cayman GT4 tipping the scales at 2866 lbs.

The Porsche Cayman GT4 Clubsport is available for order immediately. Next year, homologation is planned for race series such as the Pirelli World Challenge, the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge, the Pirelli GT3 Cup Trophy USA, the Ultra 94 GT3 Cup Challenge Canada and for club races run by the Porsche Club of America as well as for other club-level meetings around the world.

Feast your eyes as we have a ton more pictures in the gallery after the break.

Meet The All-New Infiniti QX30 Crossover

Infiniti unveiled the all-new QX30 crossover here in Los Angeles. It is essentially an Infiniti badged Mercedes-Benz GLA 250 powered by the same 2.0L four-cylinder delivering just over 200 horsepower to the front wheels. Design wise, it shares–for better or worse–the same elements from its bigger Murano brother. In fact it looks pretty much just like the concept we saw in New York sans the wheels and a more conservative looking fender.

I think this is a great addition into the Infiniti lineup as small crossovers from all the other manufacturers seem to be doing well based on how many I see on the roads. It certainly fits into their lineup much better than the GLA does for Mercedes-Benz.

We shot a few more angles and have included them in our gallery if you are interested.

Nissan Refreshes the Sentra in Los Angeles

Nissan unveiled the newly refreshed Sentra sedan here at the 2015 LA Auto Show completing their updates to their sedan lineup with the Sentra now looking more like the new Altima and recently updated 2016 Maxima sedan.

The most notable change are the updates on the front end with the bigger front grill and more modern looking lower front fascia and new boomerang styled headlights seen on the Altima and Maxima.

On the inside, Nissan has revised the steering wheel, new center console display and shifter knob. A power-adjustable driver’s seat is also available on the revised Sentra. A number of Nissan’s advanced Safety Shield Technologies are now available on Sentra for the first time – Forward Emergency Braking (FEB), Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC), Blind Spot Warning (BSW) and Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA).

The new Sentra goes on sale next month, but if you can’t wait check out more pictures in our gallery.

Ford Booth Tour – SEMA 2015

Center stage at the Ford booth here at the 2015 SEMA Show was the Ford GT Le Mans race car, unveiled this summer, commemorates the 50th anniversary of Ford’s 1966 overall victory. The new race car is based on the all-new Ford GT supercar unveiled last January in Detroit and features the most powerful production EcoBoost engine, a twin-turbo V6.

As with last year, there were numerous Mustangs, Focus, and F-150s with mild to radical modifications. The Ford booth at SEMA is always a fun booth to walk through as there is usually something different to check out. In fact, for 2015 the Ford Mustang won the SEMA Show’s Hottest Car award which is based on how many tuners/exhibitors had a Mustang on display. There were some pretty crazy Mustangs at SEMA, but my favorite one was actually in the Ford booth this year. You can check it out in the gallery below, it’s the white widebody with blue wheels built by Ice Nine Group.

Check it, and the other vehicles in the Ford SEMA 2015 booth.

Dodge, Fiat, Jeep And Chrysler At SEMA 2015

Headlining the Mopar booth at the 2015 SEMA Show was definitely the Dodge Challenger GT AWD Concept with its wide fender flares to fit the massive 20×11 and 20×10 wheels, and yeah you read that right. The GT AWD Concept combines raw muscle car power with the confidence and traction of all-wheel-drive proving that yes, you can have your cake and eat it too. That extra traction is needed to as the 5.7L HEMI V8 under the hood has been upgraded with the Scat Pack 3 Performance Pack which adds 75 horsepower and 44 lb-ft of torque.

While not quite as well rounded as last year’s SEMA booth there were still a few cars worth a look in the booth. The Chrysler 300 Super S dropped on a set of factory coilovers and Chrysler 200 S Mopar showed off the customization options available for Chrysler vehicles. In addition, a pair of Fiat 500 concepts, the Chicane and Mobe show off the personalization options available to Fiat owners. Rounding out our coverage is the Dodge Ram Rebel X which appears to be a Dodge Ram with the entire Dodge parts catalog bolted on covered in a paint job they call Copper.

Check out the pictures of the Mopar Booth in our gallery.

The BMW Group At SEMA 2015

Hey look, MINI and BMW vehicles grouped together. Sometimes we make logical decisions, or perhaps some of the alcohol has worn off and we’re thinking a bit more clearly.

The BMW group had great representation at the 2015 edition of the SEMA Show. A couple notable examples would be Bulletproof Automotive’s BMW Z4 GT Continuum which was at the Toyo booth and a vehicle we referred to as “the rusty BMW”. The GT Continuum was a special project for their 15th anniversary. Like the MX-5 Speedster the GT Continuum ditches the windshield and also removes the folding metal roof. The end result looks like a steam-roller drove over the Z4 as it looks really low from hood to trunk.

The rusty BMW was actually not a build with actual rusty panels like you would see at your local DUBfest shows but instead, as I learned when googling the vehicle, a look the owner/builder created by rubbing motor oil on the exposed panels. The vehicle was actually pretty heavily damaged in a garage fire but his team was able to rebuild and salvage parts of the vehicle to turn it into the tube-framed beast you see here.

Check it, and the some of the other BMW and MINIs that we shot at the 2015 SEMA show.

Lexus and Hyundai, Together At Last! – SEMA 2015

I know, I know, it’s really weird that we’re combining Lexus and Hyundai. “Why didn’t you just lump Lexus in with Toyota”? Because we’re in Vegas, the land of bad decisions and worse consequences. “I really don’t understand why you can’t just do it now instead of typing a stupid explanation”. Because the files are already named as such and it’s more difficult to fix it than to just apologize.

Honestly though, does it matter? You’re just here for the pictures and we’ve organized them nicely, Hyundai first, then Lexus. Wanna see a Veloster? Start at the beginning. Wanna see an RCF? Start near the middle. These are the sort of simple concepts that we COMPLETELY FAIL TO GRASP ON A REGULAR BASIS.

Mazda Shows Off Two Lightweight Miata Concepts At SEMA

It’s not like the standard MX-5 roadster was a heavyweight, but Mazda designers wanted to see what could be achieved if weight savings were pushed to the limits. They were given free reign to craft a couple examples of lightweight prototypes based on the MX-5 and the result are the two concepts below: The 2016 MX-5 Spyder Concept and 2016 MX-5 Speedster Concept.

The MX-5 Spyder takes the unique characteristics of a vintage roadster and modernizes it to include a bespoke leather interior and a fresh new Mercury Silver prototype paint color.

For the MX-5 Speedster, Miata designers took it to extremes while paying homage to the minimalist roadsters of the ’50s. Painted in a Blue Ether paint, the MX-5 Speedster even ditches the windshield in favor of a carbon fiber deflector providing that true wind in the hair driving experience.

Both of these vehicles weigh significantly less than the already light 2,332 pound MX-5 roadster. Take a look through our gallery and let us know what you think!

Mercedes-Benz C Class Estate Coming to Canada

Mercedes-Benz Canada is set to introduce the C Class Estate to the Canadian market in the spring of 2016. The wagon version of the newly introduced C Class, previously only available in European markets, will hit showrooms in February of 2016. The 2016 C300d 4MATIC Wagon will be powered by a 2.1L diesel 4 cylinder motor, making 190hp and 369lb-ft of torque. Power will be routed through the 7G-Tronic Plus gearbox to all 4 wheels, making it a great year round car for our Canadian winters.

Like the C Class Sedan, the C300d 4MATIC Wagon comes packed with safety features such as Collision Prevent Assist, Attention Assist, Blindspot Assist, and my favorite, Distronic Plus with Steering Assist which allows the Wagon to drive itself up to 60km/h.

There are no plans for a C63 Wagon (currently available in Europe), but that could change in the next 2 years if the C300d 4MATIC Wagon sells well.
