F-Type Engine for Range Rover Sport SVR

Jaguar’s amazing 5.0L supercharged V8 from their F-Type SVR produces a whopping 575hp. Now Range Rover fans can find that same powerplant shoehorned under the hood of the Sport SVR making it one of the most powerful SUV’s on the market.

Jaguar has spent the last 20 years developing and refining this particular V8 powerplant as it debuted in 1997 to replace the English company’s famous but very dated V12. The first iteration was a 4.0L producing around 375hp when supercharged. In it’s most current form, displace is bumped to 5.0L, it’s still supercharged, and much of the internals have been massaged to pump out the 575hp now found in the F-Type SVR.

Competition in the high end high performance SUV space is getting very stiff and it takes a lot for automakers to stand out nowadays. One of those marks is top power honors. The Sport SVR should be able to edge out most of its competition, albeit a few with their V12 variants, but there is also major brand loyalty that goes for the British automaker.

Lotus Exige Sport 350 Gets Lighter

Coming from a company with its roots firmly grounded in motorsport racing, it is exciting to see Lotus once again delivering a light weight track ready vehicle in the Exige Sport 350.

The Exige Sport 350 is joined in the stable by the recently released Elise Sport and Elise Sport 220. Weighing in at a just 2,480 pounds, this puts the Exige Sport 350 at 112 pounds skinnier than the already light weight Exige S. Weight savings were realized by a combination of an aluminum chassis and composite bodywork. Additional weigh savings was introduced via a new louvered tailgate, battery, engine mounts, and insulation materials.

Coupled to an overall weight reduction, the Exige Sport 350 is powered by Lotus’ supercharged 3.5-liter V-6 engine rated at 345 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. The combined light weight and power package propels the Exige Sport 350 to 60 mph in just 3.7 seconds and tops out at 170 mph. A revised six-speed manual gearbox provides the driver with quick and precise shifting. An optional six-speed automatic is available and offers manual paddle shifting. Lotus claims a 60 mph sprint in just 3.8 seconds with their automatic car, which all considering, is a negligible impact on performance compared to the manual car.

The Exige Sport 350 is set to hit dealers around February in Europe, and March for other markets overseas. Unfortunately, we won’t be seeing this car on our North American shores.

Concept Volkswagen Golf GTE Sport

Volkswagen continues to push the envelope with their compact car designs and introduces the concept Golf GTE Sport. Setup as a two seater, the angular and sporty coupe pushes the design elements of the Golf and pulls in design queues from the Scirocco.

Power is delivered by a 1.6-liter turbo four-cylinder gasoline engine and electric motors on the front and rear axle with an estimated total output of 395hp and 494 ft/lbs of torque. Volkswagen claims a 4 second sprint to 60 mph, a top speed of 174 mph, and the ability to deliver 118mpg when driven on the European test cycle.

Weight of the vehicle will be kept to a minimum with construction of the body panels being formed from carbon fiber. Combining light weight and packing ample power, Volkswagen aims to “blur the lines” between motorsports vehicles and road cars.
