2015 Mercedes AMG GT. 2014 Paris Motor show

Being an AMG owner, new cars from AMG always get my attention. The new GT and GT S Model have my attention. Cars always look different in the flesh than do in pictures. This car is no exception to that rule.

When I first saw photos and videos of the GT, I was not impressed by the rear end. Early reports of the development of this car (not a direct replacement for the SLS) suggested that AMG was designing a 911 fighter. To me, the rear looks very Porsche. I don’t know if that was co-incidence or purposeful.

On the way to work the other day, I was behind the latest 911 and I couldn’t believe the resemblance of the GT to it.

First Look: Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Final Edition

Mercedes-Benz AMG released a teaser photo of the upcoming SLS AMG Final Edition, set to be unveiled at the 2013 LA International Auto Show. With the upcoming 911 competitor and SLS replacement, the SLC, set to be introduced next year, AMG is sending off the SLS gullwing with the Final Edition loaded with new features. For the North American market, it will be available for the SLS GT, and if rumors are correct, a short run of SLS Black Series Final Editions.

Not much is known on the specs at this time, but from unreleased photos that we’ve seen, we can see that there is a new wheel design, and loaded with carbon fiber, including the front splitter and hood shown in this photo. We will update the post as the photos are officially released.

Update – Tons of leaked photos after the jump.

2014 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series Unmasked

The standard (if you can call it that) Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG was already quite the beast that felt very black-series-esque. So when AMG announced it will be building a Black Series version of the supercar enthusiasts around the world got all giddy. The 2014 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG is the fifth Black Series model and will be available next summer for about $450k (my SLS Black Series price guesstimate).

The SLS Black Series gets a modest bump in power to 622hp but loses a bit of torque at 468lb/ft. As usual AMG has upgraded the water and oil cooling systems so owners will be able to beat them up on the track. The Black Series also sheds a bit of weight. The exhaust system is now full titanium resulting in a drop of nearly 29lbs. A further 35lbs is saved with the ceramic brakes and a carbon-fibre reinforced polymer engine to transmission torque tube (instead of aluminum) sheds another 29.3lbs. AMG took the weight savings so seriously it even replaced the battery with one you would normally see in a hybrid vehicle. The lithium-ion battery sheds roughly 18lbs.

AMG Performance Tour stops by in Calgary

The AMG Performance Tour Road Show made a stop in Calgary this week, bringing with them 14 AMG vehicles for a lucky few to sample. AMG owners were invited by their respective dealerships and sales staff to join AMG in testing out their current line of vehicles in an enviroment they were designed for, on the race track, at Race City Motorsports Park.

Being the biggest AMG fanboy out there, and having owned 4 different AMGs in the past few years, I was given an invite to this event. Seeing as this is the final week for Race City (it’s officially closing after this weekend), what better way than to spend a few hours on the track I grew up with, hammering on some of the finest (and personal favorite) vehicles from Affalterbach.
