Kia Optima Wagon Debuts at Geneva Motor Show

The European market is all about the estate vehicles, or station wagons as we call it here in North America. But with consumers on our shores preferring SUVs over wagons, we typically get the short list on wagon options. As in the case for the all new Kia Optima Wagon, as beautiful as a vehicle it is, we likely won’t see it on North American roads any time soon.

Kia is set to debut the Optima Wagon at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show in March. Based on the Sportspace Concept showcased last year at the Geneva Motor Show, the production version of the wagon will borrow the overall angular body lines from the concept, but will lose the slim line grille and have a beefier rear bumper likely to comply with crash test standards.

Once the Sportwagon debuts in Geneva, the public will get its entire spec list. As of now, information on Kia’s new wagon has been limited.

Optima Batteries Brings Ultimate Street Cars to SEMA 2015

The Optima Invitational, or Optima Ultimate Street Series, or whatever they’re calling it these days, invites owners of any and all vehicles to join in a multi-stage performance test in a bid to be crowned the ultimate street car (and driver). Cars are split into classes based on age and weight, and follow pretty standard rules – mandating street tires, limiting aftermarket aero and, of course, making sure everything is safe – as they tackle up to 4 challenges during 1 of 8 qualifying rounds across America. From Pike’s Peak to Michigan International, drivers from all over the country are able to show up and try their luck in road rally, road course, autocross or speed stop, as well as receive points for how streetable their car is. The top performers at each qualifying round, as well as the winners of each event and some lucky “Spirit of the Event” cars get invited to the final showdown at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, held immediately after SEMA.

Unfortunately for us, the majority of cars had already rolled out before we could get shots, but we got to see some great cars at their booth inside the hall. Check out the gallery for all the pics that we managed to get!

Play “Spot The Difference” With The 2014 Kia Optima

You’d be forgiven if you didn’t know whether any given Optima was a ’13 or ’14. The changes brought for the new model are minor but, like the Golf, not much needed changing. The front fascia got a bit of a facelift with repositioned LEDs, new foglights and updated diffuser. The interior boasts a new instrument cluster, better seats and optional blind spot detection.

We like the existing Optima and the seats were one of our only complaints, so the new updates, while minor, are welcome. Check out the gallery and let us know what you think.
