Lexus RCF GT Concept Debuts

2015-Lexus-RCF-GT-Concept-Drops-900Lbs-For-Pikes-Peak-3

The RC F GT Concept is a race prepped street car which is slotted between the production RC F and the RC F GT3 race car. The GT Concept will be powered by the 5.0L V8 that’s currently in the RC F, but will be slightly tuned with a performance exhaust and a modified lubricating and cooling system to keep things in check.

The RC F GT Concept will also go on a healthy diet shedding almost 800 pounds thanks to the use of carbon and composite materials throughout. According to Jeff Bracken, VP of Lexus, “The GT Concept shows the opportunities of the platform and powertrain that underpins our F models”

Lexus and Hyundai, Together At Last! – SEMA 2015

Lexus-Hyundai-SEMA-2015-14

I know, I know, it’s really weird that we’re combining Lexus and Hyundai. “Why didn’t you just lump Lexus in with Toyota”? Because we’re in Vegas, the land of bad decisions and worse consequences. “I really don’t understand why you can’t just do it now instead of typing a stupid explanation”. Because the files are already named as such and it’s more difficult to fix it than to just apologize.

Honestly though, does it matter? You’re just here for the pictures and we’ve organized them nicely, Hyundai first, then Lexus. Wanna see a Veloster? Start at the beginning. Wanna see an RCF? Start near the middle. These are the sort of simple concepts that we COMPLETELY FAIL TO GRASP ON A REGULAR BASIS.

Translogic 165: 2015 Lexus RC F Biometrics Test

We Monitor Brain, Heart And Respiratory Activity During Our Drive Of The 2015 Lexus RC F

A traditional vehicle review goes like this: Reviewer drives car, reviewer gathers thoughts, reviewer relays vehicle impressions to audience. But what if instead of explaining what it’s like to drive a given…

Lexus considering V8 Supercars racing program

Just a few years ago, Holden and Ford were the only manufacturers competing in Australia’s V8 Supercars series. But those days were left long ago in a cloud of smoke on the track, and are only disappearing even further in the rearview mirror as the latest intel suggests Lexus could be ready to e…

Lexus Booth Tour – SEMA 2014

lexus-booth-tour-sema-2014-1

You’re going to have to excuse our coverage of the Lexus booth at SEMA 2014. In previous years Lexus would run their promotions and giveaway in a second location due to the small size of their booth but this year it was inside their already crowded booth resulting in a big lineup that snaked through their booth and the hallway obstructing all their vehicles from being shot properly.

Up on the main stage was the RC F GT3 Concept with its giant hologram rainbow logo adorning its sides. The RC F GT3 was unveiled earlier this year in Geneva but we’re seeing it for the first time here at SEMA. Under the hood the modified V8 develops 532 horsepower and with the stripped interior weighs only 2,756 pounds.

Flanking the GT3 Concept on one side was a red RC 350 F Sport by Beyond Marketing. It features, wait for it, a custom Rocket Bunny wide-body kit slammed on a set of Enkei wheels wrapped in Toyo R888s. Under the wheels are a set of Brembo 6-piston clampers and 15″ rotors up front. On the other side was a Molten Pearl NX built by Elite Motorworks riding on a set of 21″ HRE P104 forged wheels in black wrapped in Toyo T1R rubber.

2015 Lexus RC F

The Third Child Is Slightly Less Wild

I didn’t get a chance to drive the Lexus IS F until 2009, two years after the car had gone on sale, but I still vividly remember the day it happened. Having piloted almost every other vehicle in the Lexus lineup at that point, I was stoked to finally get…

Lexus fans vote Solar Flare for new RC F hue

What’s in a name? When it comes to model nameplates, quite a lot, and automakers go to considerable lengths to find just the right one. Same goes for the names of the colours in the catalog (save for maybe the Rape Yellow in the extensive Bugatti palette), but every once in a while, an automaker…

Lexus asks fans to help name new orange shade for RC F

Flip through the catalog for most Lexus models and you’re bound to see an array of different shades of beige and gray. But even Lexus has its wilder side, denoted by the letter F, and those models can wear brighter hues.

The IS F, for example, offered an electric shade of blue which Lexus…

Lexus Wants Your Help To Name New Orange Paint

lexus_rcf_new_orange

Similar to how SRT, which is now back under Dodge, sought help to name the new blue hue for the Viper, Lexus is asking fans to help it name the bright orange paintjob on the Lexus RC-F via their facebook page.

There doesn’t appear to be an official contest so not sure if Lexus will actually use any suggestions, but if you have a great name for the candy orange paint job head on over to their facebook page and share it. Right now the top contender seems to be Tangerine Flame which to me sounds more like a dish at the local Indian restaurant but I don’t have any better ideas. Solar flare seems to be the next runner up, so what about Solar Orange?

2015 Lexus RC F Coupe Debuts in Motor City

Last year in Detroit at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) Lexus launched the new IS by rolling out an IS350 F Sport alongside an IS300H hybrid. Late last year during the Tokyo Motor Show they launched the new RC 350 coupe which we’ve seen previews of via the LF-CC Sport Coupe Concept as well as the LF-LC concept. This year, in another splashy unveiling in the same ballroom that hosted the IS launch we saw for the first time the 2015 Lexus RC-F coupe.

Compared to the RC 350, the RC-F sits lower and wider under a set of flared fenders. The hood has been enlarged and fitted with vents to house a larger new V8 powerplant that will deliver about 470 horsepower and 385 lb-ft of torque. Out back are a pair of stacked exhausts and a speed activated rear wing deploys when the RC-F goes over 80 km/h and lowers after it drops below 40 km/h. A great feature to show off if you cannot afford the LF-A like me :)

The last-gen IS-F failed to compete with the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG, but perhaps the RC-F will be positioned better against the upcoming (larger) AMG variant of the new C-Class. Other vehicles that are in the cross-hairs of the RC-F would likely include the BMW M4 and the Audi RS5. For purists, the choice will be easy as the Lexus RC-F is the lone naturally aspirated powered coupe with its mammoth 5.0L V8. BMW (turbo 3.0L) as well as AMG (turbo 4.0L) are joining Audi with their turbocharged motors. Audi is also the only manufacturer that is using a regular torque converter automatic transmission while everyone is offering dual clutch transmissions.
