Honda Civic Type-R Coming to Canada

Good news for those who have been eagerly anticipating any news on whether the Civic Type-R will be coming to Canada. We’ve posted about the progress of this vehicle a few times including the concept version we shot when we were at the Paris Motor Show which is pictured above. At the time, the Type-R was not expected to arrive in North America but at the New York Auto Show Honda showed off a “global model” leading to speculation that the hot hatch would be making the trip across the pond.

Today, sources have confirmed that Honda Canada has announced via its dealership network employee eBiz portal that the Type-R will indeed be arriving in Canadian dealerships. At this point, no pricing information or any other details are available but we’ll keep our eyes peeled for any official news from Honda Canada.

If you forgot, the new Type-R redefines Civic performance by offering a more than 280hp in the Honda hot hatch. Coupled with a slick shifting 6 speed manual transmission and the ability to rev to 7000rpm, Honda promises the new Civic Type-R to exceed performance from the previous Type-R’s, which includes the Integra, Accord, and even the NSX.

2015 Honda Civic Type R Almost Ready for Production

Just days ahead of the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show, Honda is showing off the 2015 Civic Type R development car at its in-house testing track in Japan. The Civic Type R, which Honda considers camouflaged, is being put through its paces as part of an extensive testing process taking place at its own testing facilities as well as the famed Nurburgring track ahead of its launch in 2015.

The Civic Type R will be powered by Honda’s first ever production turbo VTEC engine. The 2.0L 4-cylinder turbo engine will produce over 280 horsepower.

Speaking during recent testing at the Nurburgring, Germany, Honda’s WTCC driver Gabriele Tarquini, gave his first driving impressions “The car and the characteristics of the car were fantastic. I was really impressed by the power and the torque of the engine but also by the set-up they achieved. The car is very pointed on the front and very fast to change direction. This car is very close to my racing car and you can feel very well the DNA of Type R.”

It’ll be interesting to see how close to production trim this Honda Civic Type R is as it has a very aggressive front fascia and wide front fenders. Out back is a near double-decker wing. The front brakes stand out with the large flashy red calipers but it is difficult to say how big the rotors are but they’re at least 13″ up front.

Honda Announces Series of New Turbo VTEC Engines

Today, Honda announced the introduction of three all-new VTEC turbo engines as part of its growing Earth Dreams Technology range. These new engines come in three capacities; 1.0L, 1.5L and the 2.0L, and will deliver a dynamic performance, as well as class-leading output and fuel economy.

All three engines will be direct-injection petrol turbos, utilizing variable valve motion technology such as Honda’s refined VTEC technology. Together with Honda’s 1.6 litre diesel engine and hybrid technology, these new turbo engines will be applied on a number of future global models, depending on local market requirements and vehicle characteristics.

Based on a completely new engine structure and utilizing its newly developed turbo systems, Honda has downsized its engines and produced a highly efficient 1.0L direct-injection, 3-cyclinder turbo engine as well as a 1.5: direct injection, 4-cyclinder turbo engine. Both engines have low friction throughout and are able to achieve class-leading output and environmental performance.

The first VTEC turbo motor that will arrive is the 2.0L, which will appear in the forthcoming Civic Type R. A highly efficient and highly responsive engine, it will have an output in excess of 280 horsepower and will be EURO 6 compliant.
