Audi has finally unveiled its answer to the Mercedes-Benz CLA class. The “mini A4″ was revealed to select journalists in New York on the eve of the New York Auto Show (sadly we weren’t invited, c’mon Audi!) with its official debut next month in Shanghai. If you’re familiar with current Audi’s, there is nothing ground-breaking being introduced with the arrival of the A3 Sedan so there’s no point going over the detailed features and specs.
The A3 Sedan will launch in Europe first with a trio of 4-cylinder powerplants. A 2.0L TDI diesel pumping out 150 horsepower and 236 lb-ft of torque, a 1.4L gasoline TFSI putting out 140 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque and finally a 1.8L gasoline TFSI motor delivering 180 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. These will be mated to a six-speed manual transmission or an optional six-speed S tronic dual clutch transmission.
Audi has not announced any details for the launch of the A3 Sedan for North America but expect to see the usual 2.0L TFSI found in the GTI, A4, etc. I would also expect that the A3 Sedan will only be offered with the dual clutch option here when it arrives in 2014. No pricing information was released but I’m sure we’ll find out more during the official debut in Shanghai.
