Volkswagen’s Three Row SUV Spotted

A very exposed large SUV from Volkswagen has been spotted testing out in China. The North American market hasn’t seen or heard much about the large three rowed SUV since the concept vehicle debuted at the Detroit Auto Show back in 2013. With the SUV market being so dominant in North America, it is still a wonder if the large SUV will make it onto North American soil.

Curiously, the vehicle is first spotted in China before the US given the great demand of these types of vehicles here. Currently the car spotted in China is called the Teramont, but it will likely get rebadged if it hits North American soil. Not shockingly, the production car looks a lot like the CrossBlue concept. True to current VW standards, the front headlights get the full LED package and the angular design element continues to the rear. The Teramont really looks like a jacked up version of the current generation Passat that’s available in the European market.

Here’s to hoping that we get another SUV in the Volkswagen lineup because as it stands it’s a little thin.

Volkswagen’s New SUV Spotted

Volkswagen’s CrossBlue concept has been spotted in camo doing some testing. The vehicle is heavily covered up, but we can still pull some details away like the Passat like rear end in terms of design cues. The new and larger SUV from Volkswagen may be using the 3.6L V6 found in the Passat and will incorporate 4Motion all wheel drive. Volkswagen may also choose to put their 2.0L turbo four cylinder into the SUV. However, that may be a fairly undersized engine given the platform size of the vehicle. And speaking of platform size, the new SUV will give occupants 3 rows of seating.

Volkswagen is also planning to have the CrossBlue be built on top of their all new MQB platform which allows it to share most of it’s parts with the Golf lineup. This certainly will help in cost management. However, that doesn’t mean those production costs will translate into customer savings as the SUV is still predicted to start somewhere around the $50,000 USD range.

Look for this new Volkswagen to hit showrooms around late 2017.

Volkswagen CrossBlue Concept

Audi had the SQ5, Porsche had the Cayenne Turbo S but today, at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Volkwagen revealed something even bigger!

Well… Physically.

The VW CrossBlue Concept is a 5 metre long (compared to the 4.8m Cayenne/Touareg) 7-seater hybrid designed with maximum fuel efficiency and practicality in mind, but without sacrificing in the performance department. With a 2.0L diesel engine and two electric motors the CrossBlue can send a butt-puckering 510 ft/lb of torque to all four wheels, rocketing it from zero to sixty in a hair over 7 seconds despite having the cargo volume of the Birch Aquarium. However, if you’re not the racing type, you can get up to 1,100 km out of a tank of diesel and fully charged battery. The battery itself can send you 22 km as a zero emission vehicle, just in case you’re feeling extra green.
