2017 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1

camaro zl1

The all new Camaro ZL1 is generating a lot of talk around it’s new progressive styling. Some may say it’s a departure of all things classic about the American muscle car, but others may say it’s just part of evolution. I take the side of the latter. But regardless of which side you stand on, there’s no denying the fact that the new Camaro ZL1 is a potential Hellcat slayer.

Chevrolet is set to officially debut the car at the upcoming New York Auto Show, but information about the car has already leaked all over the internet. Under the hood will be a 6.2L V8 that’s supercharged and good for 640hp and 640lb/ft of torque. The motor is essentially a tuned version of the Corvette Z06 and Cadillac CTS-V’s motor. The American company is doing something that most manufacturers today aren’t doing, sticking a standard transmission to an immensely powerful motor. They will also produce a 10 speed auto gearbox as an option for those who want it.

Getting back to the looks, the ZL1 is full of wide body work, sweeping body lines, vents, and LEDs. All of which comes together in unison to create a very visually appealing package. The overall physical prescience of the ZL1 is muscle and performance. The car also features an intake/vent hump on the hood line which looks to be a separate unit from the hood itself.

Regardless of how this new Camaro gets received by the public, one thing we do know is that it’s a potent package and major competition for Dodge and their Hellcats. Happy hunting!

GM Issues Stop Sale on 2016 Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon

General Motors has identified an issue with the front airbags on their 2016 Chevrolet Colorado, GMC Canyon and Chevrolet Malibu vehicles. From a statement released by GM, “the second stage of the driver frontal airbag may not deploy properly in certain high-speed crashes.” GM went further to state that “The supplier of the potentially faulty airbag module isn’t Takata.”

At this point, General Motors has issued a stop-sale and started a recall campaign for all affected vehicles. The recall impacts 1,579 vehicles in the US with a build year of 2016.

If you currently own one of these vehicles we encourage you to contact your local dealers for more information. By law, GM cannot let their dealers sell any vehicle with an open recall campaign which hasn’t been fixed yet. Once dealers complete the fixes to the vehicles on their lots, they can begin to sell those vehicles again.

Chevrolet Corvette Grand Sport

chevrolet grand sport

Chevrolet’s Corvette has been the at the epicenter of all things Americana since the original car rolled off the assembly line. Nothing says America more than this low slung V8 coupe. Recently, Chevrolet unveiled their Corvette Grand Sport at the Geneva International Motor Show. The Grand Sport is a lightweight version of the standard Corvette that has been bred for the race tracks.

Here’s some performance specifications for the Grand Sport. As standard, it comes with Chevrolet’s LT1 V8 that pumps out 460hp. With its race tuned suspension, it pulls 1.2 Gs in the corners, carbon ceramic brakes brings the whole package to a halt. Chevrolet still offers a seven-speed manual, but an optional eight-speed paddle-shift automatic can purchased with the Grand Sport.

Be on the lookout for the new Corvette Grand Sport to make an appearance at showroom floors in the summer.

Chevrolet Blows Away Tesla With the Bolt EV

While Chevrolet unveiled the 2017 Bolt EV at CES last week, it wasn’t until today at the Detroit NAIAS that Chevy revealed the juicy details for their affordable electric vehicle. Recapping the Vegas unveil, the Bolt EV is slated for production by the end of the year, and will be a 320km range EV, setting its sights squarely on the unreleased Tesla Model 3. The Bolt is packed with lots of passenger space thanks to using the chassis floor for battery packaging (much like Tesla’s Model S), and electronic gadgets such as a rear view camera mirror which offers unobstructed widescreen view of the rear to enhance driving experience.

What we learned here in Detroit is that Chevy is targeting a $30,000 price target (after Federal rebates in the US), and even more impressive is the drivetrain details. This EV, the size of a Fiesta, is powered by a single motor drive unit good for 200hp and 266 lb-ft of torque, setting the bar very high in this segment. The dash to 60mph clocks in at a very respectable 6.8 seconds. Controlling the power is Chevy’s Electronic Precision Shift system, delivering feel and delivery of power based on drive mode selection and throttle inputs to closely mimic a typical driving experience. Aggressive regenerative braking allows the Bolt to drive using the brakeless 1 pedal method, but for those inexperienced with such a driving style, a less efficient standard drive mode is available.

Pricing Announced For 2016 Chevrolet Malibu Hybrid

Chevrolet announced that in 2016 it will be producing a Hybrid Malibu which will be priced at around the $30,000 mark for its based model.

The Hybrid Malibu will share an electrical powertrain with the Volt, but the Malibu will run a slightly larger 1.8L 4 cylinder gas motor versus the Volt’s 1.5L 4 cylinder. Interestingly, the Hybrid Malibu will be priced below the Volt.

The 2016 Malibu will be using a new Exhaust Gas Heat Recovery system is designed to leverage hot exhaust gases for alternate purposes like heating the cabin of the vehicle. Performance on the new Hybrid Malibu is expected to be 45 mpg highway, 48 mpg city and a combined fuel efficiency of 47 mpg. Battery range will be in the vicinity of 55 miles when only electric power is chosen.

Although the Malibu is priced lower than the Volt, it is the most expensive in the entire Malibu model range. Once the cars hit the showroom floor, it’ll be interesting to watch consumer’s response to the new model.

Next Generation 2016 Chevy Volt Unveiled in Detroit

After offering a sneak peek at the next generation Chevy Volt at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Chevrolet has now officially unveiled the new EV here in Detroit at the 2015 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) at their high-tech booth adorned with 20 foot tall transparent display screens.

The new Chevy Volt gets a slight makeover on the front end, the split-grille from the older model has been broken up into two distinct grilles with the Chevy badge making its new home inside the smaller top grille. The larger lower grille features active grille shutters that close during higher speeds. The LED fog lights have been rotated 90 degrees and now resemble a pair of fangs (or whiskers depending on how you see this car).

We saw in Vegas how the new Volt looked, so what is different under the hood? Before we start let’s recap some of the current generation Volt specs. Armed with a 1.4L four-cylinder engine and electric motor the current Volt can make it 38 miles on all-electric power before the gas engine powers up giving it a total range of 375+ miles.

The new 2016 Chevy Volt gets a slightly bigger 1.5L four-cylinder gas engine. The electrical propulsion system has been updated to a two motor based system delivering nnearly 20% stronger acceleration down low (0 – 48 km/h). The new drive unit sheds 100 pounds off the new Volt. The battery has also been upgraded to a 18.4 kWh unit that not only provides a longer all-electric range of 50 miles (38 miles on current gen Volt), but also sheds another 21 pounds. The new overall range is expected to be more than 400 miles (about 20 miles more than the existing Volt). 0-60 times have been reduced to 8.4 seconds.

Each year at the SEMA Show, Chevy sets up a big booth in the central hall and packs it with their fleet of cars and trucks including the Corvette, Camaro, Colorado, Silverado and even the compacts are represented with the Sonic. For this year, Chevy bid adieu to the current generation Camaro with a couple special edition Camaros. They actually enlisted the help of their fans to help name their special edition Camaro and what has the internet come up with for the #NameThatCamaro contest? From now on, the 2015 Special Edition Camaro will be known as the Green Flash Special Edition.

In order to confuse thing even further though, they also had another special or rather, commemorative edition Camaro dressed in silver with a wrap around stripe which you can see below. With so many cars in their booth its tough to mention them all but they also had on a hand the 2015 Chevrolet COPO Camaro Concept of which only 69 copies will be build.

Official: 2015 Corvette Z06 Makes 650HP and 650TQ

When GM first unveiled the 2015 Corvette Z06 in Detroit you may have noticed we said the car made 625+ horsepower and 635+ lb-ft of torque. They were holding back the official performance figures until closer to launch and today they have confirmed that the Z06’s LT4 supercharged 6.2L V8 engine makes 650 horsepower at 6,400 rpm and 650 lb-ft of torque at 3,600 rpm!

“The LT4 Small Block sets a new benchmark for power and torque at GM,” said Steve Kiefer, vice president, GM Powertrain Engineering. “The engine also puts the new Corvette Z06 on par with the most powerful supercars offered in America, while delivering performance with impeccable manners that make it suitable for daily driving.”

Not only is the amount of power staggering, but the torque curve makes many other super cars weep. Just barely above idle the engine is already producing nearly 460 lb-ft of torque. By 2800 rpm it has already skyrocketed to 625 lb-ft of torque. The whole curve is pretty flat, the LT4 maintains 90 percent of its peak torque, or 592 lb-ft, from 2,500 to 5,400 rpm. This is the definition of “passing power” and will certainly bring a smile to many new owners when it goes on sale later this year.

Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Convertible Roars Into NYC

We’ve already seen all the pictures of the C7 Z06 Convertible, but here are some more pictures of Chevrolet’s most powerful convertible. If you need a reminder, we mentioned in our original article about the Z06 convertible that because the frame was already so stiff, Chevrolet did not have to add any structural reinforcements when they removed the roof. The result is a no compromise design and no weight penalty for those that choose to go roof-less. The only caveat here for track warriors is that without even basic roll bars, the Z06 convertible will likely not be able to compete in some classes if you’re planning on taking it to the track for lapping or auto/solocross.

Oh and yeah, 625 horsepower and 635 lb-ft of torque. Just thought I’d mention that again.
