Honda Owners Club - New Local Community on Beyond.ca
Honda owners on beyond thought they would never see the day this would happen. A brand new local community has been added to the forums for the vtec loving car owners on the forums. The reason we never added a Honda section was because over 80% of our membership were Honda owners. So remember, this new section is for vtec discussions. Please take all vtech discussions to the electronics
section.

You paid what?! for your vanity plates?
While most of us roll around in our cars with regular license plates, some choose to purchase vanity plates for a variety of reasons. HER DB9 for the lady in her Aston Martin, THX MOM for the new college grad in her (paid off) BMW. Vanity plates aren’t too expensive here so you do see them quite often, but over in the land of excess vanity plates are a bit different. Check out the thread to how much you need to pay for a license plate that says “1″ on it. Insane!
Thanks for the reminder re: School Zones
A forum member thanked us for posting a reminder that the new school year has started and as a result the hundreds of school zones across the province (and country really) are now back in effect. The thread quickly turned into a debate on whether or not playground zones and school zones are effective. What people on both sides of the argument forgot is that reduced speed zones and proper parenting are not mutually exclusive. Why can’t we have both?
MP Introduces Private Member Bill to Limit Vehicles to 150 km/hr (93 mph)
Bill C-568 is aimed squarely at car enthusiasts. The bill if passed will make it illegal to operate, import, sell, lease, or purchase a vehicle if it is not equipped with a speed limiter set to 150 km/h. It would also be illegal to remove or disabled the limiter. Emergency vehicles however would be exempt from this new law. It obviously will not make it past the first reading (if it even gets there) as it currently does not have much support (gee I wonder why?).

Ever pick-up a girl sitting next to you on a plane?
an s2k International forum member that goes by the alias jamesk had decided to share an extremely detailed story about how he had picked up a girl while on vacation to London. The story was entertaining and forum members were hooked. Eventually the story blew up and people from all over the place were checking for the latest updates… that is until a beyond.ca member figured out that the story was being copied pretty much word for word from an MMA forum! jamesk was eventually outed by another beyond member using the account “bella”. Nothing gets by the Beyond CSI team!

Playground Zones: Cause More Harm For Children?
What started off as a rant for drivers to slow down in Playground zone turns into a heated debate on the effectiveness of Playground Zones. Do These 30 km/h zones distract drivers even more? Do they create a false sense of security for parents?
Dog Dies During Traffic Stop
In this video, an officer pulls over a speeding driver (who hit up to 100mph) who is rushing to the vet for his sick dog. Instead of escorting the man to the vet, or allowing his girlfriend to take the vehicle and continue on the officer detains the man and the dog eventually dies. Should the officer have let him continue on and ticket him later? Is a dogs life important enough to risk the lives of other drivers? Would a warning have sufficed?
Indian boy who performed surgery at 7 is now 13 years old
An incredible story about a boy in India who performed surgery on an 8 year when he was only 7 years old. This gifted child is now 13 and believes he will find the cure for cancer, but is he really that intelligent? Will his development slow down as he ages? Researchers think so and politely tell the boy he is not ready and needs to take a step back to re-evaluate his goals. What do you think?

Why I Hate Realtors
Are realtor’s salaries justified? Somebody certainly doesn’t think so! Should wages be proportional to how important a job is? Should a surgeon make more than a realtor? What about Pro sports? Join the debate and share your views.
All Cops are A$$Holes! or are they?
We hear about bad experiences with Police Officers all the time on the forums and this thread is a welcome change. Many people have good stories but often they do not share them, here’s your chance to share your story if you have one.

The Olympics started yesterday, so of course I’m going to have to include this thread in the weekly review. The theme of the Beijing Olympics is “One World, One Dream”. Be sure to catch the re-run of the opening ceremony, its believed to be one of the most epic openings ever with the largest TV audience in history.
When is casual dress TOO casual?
A discussion on workplace dress code involving, flip flops! A forum member asks if flip flops in the office is acceptable for guys? Both sides weigh in on the matter with some providing a firm NO to the question while others say its perfectly fine. Obviously, if you’re in any customer service role you aren’t going to get away with wearing flip flops, but what if you sit at your desk all day and don’t have to deal with other people?

Leisure Suit Supa Dexta Goes Looking For Love (In Several Wrong Places)
There are a lot of great classified ad sites on the internet but Craigslist has a special place in one of our member’s heart. Supa Dexta “stumbled” on some locals section (yeah right) and decided to reply to one of the ads. One thing led to another and the next thing you know, hes meeting some random chick who was flying into town that weekend. Perhaps Sierra can revive the LSL franchise?
Gruesome Attack On Greyhound Bus (Warning: Graphic Details)
Passengers on a Greyhound bus bound for Winnipeg witnessed one of the most horrific and gruesome slayings in recent memory. Vince Weiguang Li, a 40-year-old Edmonton man has been taken into custody and charged with second degree murder. The court case has been adjourned until August 5th so Li can speak to a lawyer. Our thoughts go out to the family of the victim, 22-year-old Tim McLean during this most difficult time.
Another Future Beyonder Is Born, Graham Tran!

Calgary Man Enjoying his new Ferrari A Little Too Much?
Its become quite the common sight in oil rich Calgary, but this past Friday the number of ferrari sightings shot up quite a bit. Starting at about 7:30am and lasting throughout much of the day until about 4:30pm there was a ferrari sighting every 15 minutes or so in the downtown area by various beyond members. However, it turns out it was the same driver circling the downtown area flaunting his F430 spider for hours on end stopping only to get gas (I imagine). The driver was obviously enjoying his vehicle as he took it up to redline on the downtown streets echoing the glorious engine note off the buildings. Who says high gas prices are causing people to drive less? :)
Beyond.ca 2008 Summer Cruise Picture Thread
This past sunday was the annual summer cruise, and as usual Banff was the destination. The infamous HPF Stage 2 Turbo M3 was in attendance ending the lives of thousands of insects on the mountain roads. There wasn’t as much trouble with law enforcement this time around and everyone seemed to have a great time. Check out the thread for some pictures, or post some of your own if you have some!

Why Even Bother Buying a House?
There is a lot of talk about real estate on the forums, but this was an interesting question that was recently thrown out there. Can one be better off putting money into other investments instead of towards a mortgage? Is there anything more to buying a house than “pride of ownership?”
Tunerworks 2008 Vehicles Update
Tunerworks, one of our sponsors, has posted a nice collection of cars that have been keeping them busy so far this year. Judging by the looks of the cars, those guys down at Tunerworks probably don’t ever call in sick! Which one of the rides is your favorite?

Beyond Identity Crisis
This topic has been brought up both on the forums as well as at the weekly meets. Some members feel the site needs to retain the “local” feel that it currently has, while other members see value in having the site grow on an international level with more members from around the world making up the membership. Our main focus is to unite automotive enthusiasts from every corner of the world while maintaining a small community feeling. Of course, trying to accomplish that is not easy and maybe even impossible, but thats the goal. Whats your take?
Founding fathers of Beyond.ca
The question of how this website got its name pops up at least once a year. The honest truth is that this name was supposed to be a temporary “development” name which we were to use while we built the site. We launched the site about 2 hours after installing the forum software and just built it as it grew. The site grew much faster than anticipated and before we knew it, the name stuck and there was no point in finding a new site name. Beyond.ca it was! Today, it is known by the two main parts of the site: Beyond.ca Car Forums, and Beyond.ca Car Blog. Try to remember all the details of this history lesson, there may be a test later!
Before there was GT5 and Forza, there was Test Drive!
A trip down memory lane! Back in the day, after walking 20km uphills both ways to and from school, we would sit ourselves in front of our blazing 386 computers and play Test Drive, a game at the time that had some decent graphics. Check out the video in this thread and compare it to Gran Turismo 5. Other racing/driving games from the late 80s and early 90s are discussed as well.
