Two Rare Bugattis Sold to Saudi Prince

Bugatti’s Chiron is a rare car in is own right, but when the original Chiron that was presented to the world at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show comes up for sale, you know that is more than owning a car, it’s owning a piece of automotive history. The next best thing from Bugatti is their Vision Gran Turismo Concept. This car was never meant for production. It was dreamed up for the Gran Turismo racing video game, but Bugatti wanted to bring that car to life.

So here are two cars that are essential 1 of 1 vehicles. Extremely rare, and extremely exclusive. This is the perfect recipe for a Saudi Prince with a never ending bank account. Nobody knows exactly what the cars sold for, but Bugatti did say that it was an offer they couldn’t refuse. Lets hope that these beautiful automotive specimens don’t fall prey to being wrapped in gold.

Bugatti Hits 200mph with 13-Year Old Driver

When I was 13 years old, the fastest thing I was able to pilot was a bike and I took every chance I could to find the longest hill to race down just to feel the excitement of speed. It felt great to click through the gears and try to beat my best speed every time I attempted the hill. That’s me as a 13 year old, and thn there’s Steven Aghakhani. He has been racing go karts since he was 7, and has been racing McLarens, Lamborghinis and Porsches recently, oh and he’s also 13.

Aghakhani’s most recent accomplishment came in the form of a Bugatti Veyron which he piloted on a 202mph top speed run. Going fast isn’t something new for him as his previous personal best was 195mph. As the speed bug bites hard, he’s now set his sights on hitting 210mph on his next run.

Bugatti Tries For 288MPH Top Speed

When Doc Brown and Marty McFly hit 88mph in their DeLorean, they were instantaneously transported back or forward in time as the flux capacitor came to life. Well, that’s all fine and dandy, but I wonder what happens when you hit 288mph? That’s what Bugatti will tell us with their Chiron as they attempt to make a run for a new top speed record.

Bugatti is no stranger to top speed records as their Veyron Super Sport currently holds that title. What makes the Chiron’s top speed run more interesting is that its even more of a car then they Veyron was. At 1,500hp and 1,180 lb/ft of torque, they Chiron should surpass what the Veyron achieved. By how much, nobody knows for sure until the attempt is made. But based on calculations it should hit a theoretical top speed of 288mph.

Bugatti Veyron Recalled

Just because it’s a Bugatti doesn’t mean that its invincible. Bugatti has issued three recalls for their Veyron.

First, 72 Veyrons will be recalled for a faulty fuel gauge. Although not a high risk issue, the Veyron’s low mpg does require one to keep up on the gas level department. So a faulty gauge might leave you stranded when you’re running up the tickers on the speedo. This recall impacts Veyrons built between the 2006-2010, and these models are rated at exactly 8/14 mpg city/hwy.

A second recall is a more cause for concern. Bugatti identified an issue with the positive battery cable and the connection to the alternator on 2006-2008 Veyrons. The connector may corrode and under extreme conditions it may catch fire from being too hot.

Lastly, the Veyron is being recalled for corrosion issues to the underbody aluminum on the vehicle. This impacts 2006-2010 models. To fix this issue, Bugatti will inspect the reference plates and seal them to prevent corrosion.

Bugatti Galibier Four Door Sedan

Bugatti hasn’t always been in the business of building the world’s top elite hypercars. Although building beautiful exclusive people carriers has always been in their DNA. Bringing the past into the future, Bugatti is looking back to cars like the Type 57 Galibier Saloon for inspiration as they plan forward to bring a new four door sedan into their modern day lineup.

Wolfgang Duerheimer, head of Bugatti, said “I can’t get the idea for a four-door limousine out of my head. It’s one of the options we might look into again as a possible next project.” Bugatti teased consumers with a Galibier concept quite some time ago, but development plans have seemed to gone quiet. When the luxury brand got revived by the Volkswagen group in 1998, the focus so far has been on producing cars like the Veyron and the Chiron. Four doors don’t seem to fit in to the new business motto, however, one can’t deny one’s own heritage.

Bugatti Chiron Most Powerful Production Car

So what does 8.0L, 16 cylinders and four turbos get you? Well, 1,480hp, 1,180lb/ft of torque, a top speed of 420 km/h and the bragging rights of being the most powerful production car in the world. If you want to own a piece of the title, simply hand over the $3.5 million CAD and you’ll be the lucky owner of 1 of 500 limited production vehicles.

What you see here is the Bugatti Chiron, honorably named after Louis Chiron who was Bugatti’s factory racing driver between the 30’s to 50’s. Bugatti will design and build a fully custom interior for the lucky owners of the Chiron. The design of the cockpit is a mix between a spaceship and minimalism. Based on photos floating around the internet, some of the designs use ample amounts of leather and aluminum accent pieces which flows from the front to the back of the cabin.

The interior design is appropriate given the spaceship like acceleration from the Chiron. The w16 quad-turbo engine has virtually no turbo lag. The first set begins to spool up right from launch and the second pair come in with its gut punch right around 3,800rpm. The Chiron sprints to 100km/h in just 2.5 seconds and can hit a non governed top speed of 451km/h.

Bugatti Veyron for $89,000

Like a Michael Jackson impersonator, he may look good, and sound good, but at the end of the day you can’t help but just laugh. As is the case with this faux Bugatti Veyron. For a fraction of the cost of the original, you too can own this imposter vehicle which is actually a Mercury Cougar with a boat load of fiberglass surgery.

Just Toys Classic Cars’ offers a variety of replica kit cars that allow the shallower pocket hypercar lovers a chance to experience what it like to behind the wheel of an attention grabbing car. However, things still don’t come cheap as the kit car price tag still tap in at $89,000USD. For that price, you’ll be behind the wheels of a Veyron with the heart of a kitty cat. Under the “hood” you’ll find a V6 Duratec motor that churns out a whopping 170hp.

In all honesty, for that price you probably can’t get yourself a real hypercar, but you can definitely situate yourself behind the wheel of a used performance car, or even an older model Ferrari.

Watch How Bugatti’s Head of Design Modifies a 911

I just came across this episode of Driven featuring a custom 911 built by Achim Andscheidt, Head of Design at Bugatti. Andscheidt has gone in the complete opposite direction of current automotive design by going with a very minimalistic design concept. All loose panels like the hood, trunk, doors, bumper covers were replaced by carbon kevlar. After stripping the interior and hvac systems the project weighs in at only about 1800lbs providing what he describes as an “interesting” power to weight ratio ;)
