All New Brabus C450

Brabus-Mercedes-C450-AMG-2

Brabus may not be a name that resonates with the general public as commonly as AMG, Mercedes Benz’s in-house performance division. But Brabus has been around since the late 70’s focusing their efforts on providing Mercedes Benz owners with performance enhancements to their vehicles. On today’s market, Mercedes Benz offers a very wide range of vehicles to appease all types of customers. Where Brabus fits in is they can provide performance options for all level trim cars from the Mercedes stable.

The Brabus C450 is outfitted with their PowerExtra B30-410 kit which boosts the C450’s power to 405hp. This brings it all that much closer to the AMG’s C63 level which churns out 469hp. The tuning package also eliminates the electronic speed governor which now allows the Brabus C450 to reach 174mph.

The tuning doesn’t stop there. In typical Brabus fashion, there cars can also be trimmed out in a complete custom aero package, performance wheels, and custom interior trim. Brabus makes all their offerings ala carte for each customer so that every build is done to each of their owners taste and desire.

Mercedes-AMG S65 Goes Topless

Mercedes-AMG S 65 Cabrio, A 217, 2015

The Mercedes-AMG S65 is like a Johnny Walker Blue Label in that it exudes sophistication and luxury. One might ask, how can you one up this level of class? One way to do so is to lob the top off the car and allow yourself to bask in warm glowing sun while you cruise the streets planted in the supple leather seats.

The S65 convertible is based largely on the S65 coupe which means much of the exterior aesthetics remain as Mercedes intended. The car will continue to be powered by Mercedes twin-turbo V12 which churns out an astonishing 630 hp all channeled to the rear wheels via their AMG 7G-tronic seven-speed automatic. Mercedes claims that structural rigidity of the convertible is on par with their coupe S65 without increasing the overall curb weight of the vehicle.

Inside, you are greeted with all the high end standard S-Class level trim which includes a heads-up display, Burmester 3D surround sound audio package, Mercedes Airscarf leather seats, and their Driving Assistance Package.

Look for the S65 convertible to hit showroom floors around May 2016.

Mercedes-Benz Bids Farewell to GL, ML, GLK and SLK

mercedes-benz-new-model-names

A couple of years ago, Infiniti announced they were changing their model nomenclature and now Mercedes-Benz is doing a rejigging of its own. Gone are the GL, ML, GLK and SLK model names. They will now be known as GLS, GLE, GLC and SLC respectively. Similar to Infiniti’s naming scheme, all SUVs and Crossovers will now have the GL prefix, with the original G retaining its single letter model name.

The five core models will also remain: from largest to smallest S, E, C, B and A. The two current four-door coupes will remain as CLS and CLA and the two roadsters will be SL and SLC.

Model suffixes will also be simplified. Instead of BlueTEC, CDI, Electric Drive, etc., Mercedes-Benz will now use a single letter to identify the powertrain type. “c” for compressed natural gas, “d” for diesel, “e” for electric, “f” for fuel cell and “h” for hybrid. 4MATIC will remain to identify their all-wheel-drive models. Diesel hybrids will simply be marked “h” for hybrid while plug-in hybrids will be marked as “e” for electric instead of hybrid.

Mercedes-Benz SL63 and SL65 AMG 2LOOK Edition

Contrast is a wonderful thing, and that’s the design theme of the new 2LOOK Edition SL63 and SL65 AMG seen here. Mercedes-Benz has given the SL their unique 2Look treatment, offering heavily contrasted colors that will grab anyone’s attention. The roof, cross-strut in the AMG front lip, mirror housings, fins on the wings and hood, surrounds of headlamp cluster, spoiler lip and diffuser insert are all coated in high-gloss black, polar opposites to the white paintjob. The interior is wrapped in exclusive Nappa leather, while trim pieces feature designo platinum white pearl Nappa leather. The biggest change is the steering wheel, wrapped in a mixture of Nappa leather and Alcantara, with the bezel in high-gloss black.

The 2LOOK Editions are available this June in German dealers, with the SL63 AMG 2LOOK Edition starting at €169,991.50, while the SL65 version starts at a piggy bank busting €244,188.00. There is no word on these editions heading our way, but I wouldn’t be surprised if this is another European exclusive.

The Mercedes-Benz CLS Gets Refreshed

2015-mercedes-benz-cls-refresh-11

The CLS class, now 4 years into the second generation, gets its facelift for the 2015 model year this fall. A rework of the front end features a lower wing design much like the refreshed E-Class. New multibeam LED headlamps with the adaptive highbeam feature allows drivers to concentrate on the road, while the car adjusts lighting for changing road conditions. The rear bumper also gets the makeover treatment, with a more aggressive rear end featuring cooling exit vents.

The changes in the cabin are fairly minor, with the biggest change being the move to the now standard iPad style screen already featured in the G, C, CLA, GLA and A Class. The COMAND navigation is upgraded with new online features that includes Google Maps integration, 3D satellite views, as well as internet based traffic information. Mechanically, the North American engine choices stay the same (the AMG non S model is no longer offered), while the non AMG CLS gets a new 9G-TRONIC 9 speed transmission which boosts fuel efficiency. DISTRONIC PLUS finally gets Steering Assist, which allows the car to drive itself in stop and go traffic up to 60km/h.

Expect to see the updated CLS in showrooms this September. Sadly, the beautiful shooting brake shown in our gallery won’t make its way to North America.

Mercedes-Benz to Unveil GLA Class in Frankfurt

North Americans got shafted when it came to the awesome A45 AMG. We’re told that we don’t like hatchbacks, and we like our SUV’s and crossovers. When we heard that we will be more than happy with the GLA class crossover, based on the same A/B/CLA platform, we were skeptical. Today, as the official pics of the GLA class was released ahead of the Frankfurt Auto Show, we’re quite happy with the decision.

The GLA250 will be the only model available at launch in the US, available in both front wheel drive, as well as all wheel drive variants. The engine will be the tried and true 2.0L 4 cylinder, making 208hp and 258 ft-lbs of torque, propelling the GLA250 to 60mph in 6.8 seconds via the 7 speed dual clutch transmission. Sized and priced to compete directly with the BMW X1, the GLA250 will be a welcome to the segment. Here’s hoping that AMG sends us a GLA45 AMG shortly.

Mercedes-AMG To Unveil A45 AMG Tomorrow

Mercedes AMG posted on their facebook page a sneak peak of what they will be unveiling tomorrow. From the looks of it, it’s the much anticipated A45 AMG, the 2.0L 350hp hot hatch that has the Golf R and RS3 on its sights. Unfortunately for us North Americans, the A45 AMG won’t make it to our shores, and we’ll have to settle for the CLA45 AMG, scheduled to be unveiled in NY at the end of March.

Stay tuned for full coverage of the new baby AMG tomorrow!

Mercedes-Benz A-Class Japanese Promo

The new Mercedes-Benz A-Class has been blowing every automaker away in the small car segment since it’s introduction. Recently, it was announced that the A-Class has locked in 90,000 orders, double the sales that VW Golf MK7 was able to do. Very impressive for a brand that has a median age of 51 years old amongst it’s buyers.

Unfortunately for us in North America, there are no plans to sell the A-Class here, but it doesn’t stop us from enjoying these new marketing efforts targetting the youth in other markets. The folks over at MB Japan has put together a short little anime story featuring the A-Class. While we might find the storyline quirky, it’s cool to see how awesome the A-Class looks slammed on some nice wheels.
