All the major automakers take to Pebble Beach at the Concourse d’Elegance every year to show off the best of the best from their fleet. Aston Martin once again stepped up to the plate and this year delivered the Vanquish Zagato and the Volante. The Zagato coupe was announced to be produced to 99 copies. With the debut of the Zagato Volante, Aston Martin has also stated that this car will be limited to 99 production vehicles.

Both cars will be powered by a tuned 6.0L V12 which is normally found in the Vanquish. This motor will pump out 590hp with an impressive 0-100km/h sprint in just 3.2 seconds. The Zagato Volante will utilize a retracting hard top to keep the lines of the car flowing with the roof up or down. The Zagato Volante also utilizes an abundance of LED lighting as well as carbon fiber around the vehicle.

We expect production of these vehicles to begin sometime early next year.

Aston Martin marked the end of the DB9’s production by tweeting a picture of the final vehicle coming off the production line with the caption “farewell to an icon”. And what a true icon the DB9 was. This vehicle set the standard for luxury performance GT cars in its 13 year production span and those that are on the road today will keep their owners plenty happy for many more years to come.

Compared to the DB11 which will be its successor, the DB9 is a simple vehicle but was made right in all the proper places. The body lines of the DB9 sweeps and swoops along exuding class and prestige at every angle. What it leaves behind is a legacy in the Aston Martin lineup, but it also opens up the door for the upcoming DB11 to push towards a new future for Aston Martin. The company kick starts this new chapter in its company history with an all new 5.2L twin-turbo V12 and a modern chassis platform. There’s high hopes for the DB11 but the car also has some seriously big shoes to fill.

Aston Martin has issued a recall on a number of their vehicles as a result of an issue identified with their door locks. The affected vehicles include the 2010-2015 Aston Martin DB9, 2010-2012 DBS, 2010-2016 Rapide, 2010-2016 V8 Vantage, 2012 Virage, 2014-2016 Vanquish, 2011-2016 V12 Vantage, and 2012-2013 V12 Zagato. In total 6,076 cars are impacted by the recall.

The problems door locks have been isolated to the door unlocking mechanism which may not function properly when the vehicle is locked from the outside. Due to the issue with the locks, a passenger could get trapped inside the vehicle. Aston Martin’s recall will require dealership to deactivate a feature in the locking system which has a double locking process. The system is controlled by a computer so the fix should just be a simple software update.

Aston Martin and Red Bull Partnership Hypercar

Aston Martin is well known as an automaker who produces some of the most luxurious and beautiful performance GT cars on the market. But when you combine the creative minds at Aston Martin with those over at Formula One Red Bull Racing, true magic happens. According to Adrian Newey, Chieft Technical Officer at Red Bull Formula One, “The synergy between Red Bull Racing and Aston Martin is clear. I knew Red Bull Racing had the ability to handle the pure performance aspects, but Aston Martin’s experience of making beautiful, fast, and comfortable GT cars is of great benefit to the project.”

The project that Newey is speaking of is a brand new hypercar that is being jointly produced by the two companies. Named the AM-RB 001, major details of the hypercar is kept hush hush for the time being, but not so quiet will be it’s naturally aspirated V12 engine mounted mid ship. The partnership hypercar will be in a two-seater configuration, built from lightweight carbon fiber, and will debut some time in 2018.

Aston Martin GT12 Roadster

Aston Martin Vantage GT12 roadster

Aston Martin’s GT12 is as close to a road legal Vantage GT3 as we will get. The car was debuted by Aston Martin last year and received amazing praise for it’s performance and undoubtedly just as importantly its beauty. The GT12 is definitely a vehicle which establishes a high standard for motorsport vehicles that can also look good at the same time as being functional. So the company could only do the logical thing which is take to this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed to debut a very limited Vantage GT12 Roadster.

Still essentially a GT3 underneath its skin, the Vantage GT12 Roadster has the GT3 based suspension, carbon ceramic brakes, and a whopping 6.0L V12 which produces 591hp. The interior is a bit more plush than the motorsport variant, but the Vantage GT12 is still able to shed 220 pounds off of the strock Vantage S. What we don’t know yet is where the GT12 Roadster tips the scale. However, we suspect Aston Martin has worked their magic to keep those numbers down.

Recall when we said that this was a very limited model, we should clarify that the GT12 Vantage Roadster is a one of one vehicle. A customer who handed over a hefty bank note to Aston Martin commissioned the automaker to create this one off machine.

Aston Martin’s DB11 will be powered by an oh so mighty 5.2L twin turbo V12. In a day in age where most manufacturers are moving away from V10s and even V8s in some cases, seeing a whopping V12 still being produced is a great sight!

The DB11’s engine is good for 600hp and 516lb/ft of torque and will propel the car from 0-100km/h in 3.9 seconds and top out at 200mph. The engine will be manufactured at the company’s Cologne plant and each unit will manufactured from beginning to end by one technician.

Aston Martin is very proud of this engine. In a statement by Andy Palmer, President and CEO of Aston Martin, “To have the ability to design and then manufacture our own high-performance engines in-house is something very special. It gives us ultimate control of quality and that all-important character for which Aston Martin cars are renowned. I have no doubts that our new twin-turbo V12 is the start of an even greater era of success.”

2017 Aston Martin Vantage GTS

The Aston Martin V8 Vantage GTS is an interesting car for the 2017 year as it solely now represents the entire past stable of Vantage models. There will only be one choice of motor which is the tried and true 4.7L V-8 which packs 430hp and 361lb/ft of torque.

The choice of options is quite simple now that the range of Vantages have boiled down to essentially one car. You will have the option of coupe or roadster. And optionally a Sport or a Lux model which varies between performance oriented trimming and suspension, or luxury details like comfort suspension and upgraded audio.
