The Alpina name has been synonymous with BMW performance and tuning over the past 50 years. Now, Alpina even puts out factory specials which are highly sought after vehicles. Back in the 80’s, BMW was still about tuning and performance, but their cars weren’t quite as speedy as today’s luxury rockets. Take for example this Alpina C1 2.3 which was well tuned for its days.
The C1 is based on BMW’s E21 3 series and was an upgraded version of their stock 323i. Pumping out 170hp in a relatively small car, the C1 charged to 100km/h in just 7.5 seconds. To put that into perspective, the iconic E36 M3 of the 90’s did 100km/h in 6.5 seconds. Not too bad for a car that’s 10 years older and with much less technological advancements.
The Alpina C1 does come as a potent little package with sport tuned Bilstein suspension, bigger brakes, light weight wheels, and simple aero in the form of a signature front and rear Alpina spoiler and Alpina livery. The updates extend into the cabin with optional Recaro seats, leather steering wheel, and custom Alpina gauges.
Produced in very limited numbers, seeing this ’83 Alpina C1 up for sale is truly a rare sight.
BMW debuts their all new Alpina B7 at the New York Auto Show today. The B7 is uses a new 4.4L V8 with twin-turbos an cranks out an impressive 600 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque. What’s even more impressive is the B7 can sprint to 100km/h in just 3.6 seconds. That’s a lot of mass moved in a very short amount of time, and the car will top out at 193 mph. The Alpina B7 uses a re-engineered and reprogrammed eight speed automatic transmission with close gear ratios allowing for quick and seamless shift creating a smooth run all the way to that 193mph.
On the outside, the B7 wears a set of 20 inch Alpina classic wheels which perfectly suit this luxury performance sedan. Alternatively, Alpina offers a set of forged aluminum 21 inch classic wheels as well. In traditional Alpina fashion, the car features custom Alpina aero, a sport tuned exhaust, and can wear Alpina’s exclusive blue metallic or green metallic paint.
The B7 is another beautiful from tuning house Alpina and we can’t wait to see it on the road.
BMW M-cars are some of the most sought after production performance vehicles on the road. With its rich racing heritage, we know that each M car is designed to give drivers the ultimate driving pleasure. What we haven’t seen from BMW, but really wish they would do, is produce an M version of their flagship 7 series. There is definitely appetite for large luxury sedans with supercar performance. Look at the likes from Audi and Mercedes just as an example.
A M7 may not be in the works, but Alpina has given us a taste of what a big body performance sedan from BMW may be like in their new 2017 Alpina B7 xDrive. The B7 uses a tuned 4.4L twin turbo V8 that delivers 600hp and 590lb/ft of torque which helps propel the massive 7 series to 100kph in 3.6 seconds. The Alpina packaged 7 series will have signature Alpina aero, adaptive dampening and four wheel steering to keep all the car at bay, and upgraded braking to ensure all of that B7 goes as fast as it stops.
As with all Alpina cars, the 2017 B7 again delivers an incredible combination of ultra luxury and performance in one big package.
