Nissan’s GTR Gets a Price Hike

When Nissan unveiled their updated GTR at this year’s New York Auto Show, it was received with mixed emotions. The updates overall weren’t significant. There was a slight power bump, and the exterior did get some visual updates, but overall the GTR is still pretty much the same car as when it was first released. But what’s definitely grabbing buyer’s attention now is the prices hike of the GTR which now starts at $111,585 for the Premium model which is close to a $9,000 jump from last year.

As mentioned earlier, the 2017 GTR will continue to use the 3.8L twin-turbo V6 engine but it has received some massaging to pump out 565 hp and 467 lb/ft of torque. That’s definitely a plus considering the price jump. We are hoping that Nissan is developing a next generation GTR as this current version has had quite a long run and I think we are due for something new.

2017 Subaru Legacy

Subaru’s all new Legacy will be hitting the showroom floors later this year. Powered by a 2.5L flat four engine that produces 175hp or a higher output 3.6L flat six producing 256hp in the 3.6R model, the Legacy is suited for those who want a little more economy or a little more oomph in their daily driving. The power is transmitted to all four wheels via Subaru’s Lineartronic CVT transmission.

The 2017 Legacy will be offered in a base, limited, and touring trim packages. This year, Subaru has upped their in car technology offering so that all vehicles will come with the Starlink media system with a 6.2inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, and a reverse camera. Customers who choose the Limited and Touring trim packages will get a larger touch screen, keyless entry/start, a moonroof, dual zone climate control, and an upgraded audio package featuring Harman Kardon products.

The all new Subaru Legacy will be priced starting at $22,815 US.

2017 NISMO Nissan GTR

Good things are to be expected when Nissan releases their new 2017 Nissan GT-R NISMO. This year power numbers will be up again and the car will be more comfortable than the previous year model which makes the NISMO GTR a really well rounded car.

As will all NISMO vehicles, performance tuning happens in all aspects of the vehicle from suspension, engine, and outside all the way to the inside. All new aero adorns the GTR, and lightweight RAYS forged wheels round out the exterior changes. The suspension is beefed up all around for some track readiness. The interior gets a nice set of Recaro seats that provides ample support to keep the driver planted.

Power is produced from a tuned 3.8L twin turbo V6 which pumps out 600 hp and 481 lb/ft of torque. All of that is delivered through a six-speed dual-clutch automatic sending power to all four wheels.

Sixth Generation Camaro Spied

The latest generation Camaro has been spied during testing and what an amazing looking piece of machinery it is, even under heavy camo. From what we can tell, the body styling is very aggressive with the next generation. I think it looks like a street legal NASCAR with the aggressive body styling with all those splitters and winglets.

And we wouldn’t be far off to guess that it’ll pack something equally as impressive under the hood. The last generation LS7 was a god send of a 7.0L small block V8. Spied footage out there suggests that the next generation will continue to be naturally aspirated. With it’s competition already belching out around 530hp, we think that all new Camaro will definitely push out somewhere north of that number, just to be a bit better than the others.

Fiat’s All New Abarth 595

Fiat has debuted their all new 2017 Abarth 595 in Europe and it’s coming with an nice list of updated. Power is the long awaited bump that is bound for the 595. The car will be utilizing a 1.4L turbo four cylinder engine which utilizes a larger turbo with power ranging from 145hp for the Abarth 595, 165hp for the 595 Turismo and 180hp for the 595 Competizione.

All three models will come in either a hatchback body of convertible. Fiat has also released information about the updated suspension which is supplied by Koni for the Turismo and the Competizione. And the range topping Competizione will also get a limited slip differential as part of it’s option package.

Overall, the 595 also gets a nice physical update with a new and more aggressive front bumper which integrates cooling vents to channel more air into and around the car. Although the 595 is only destined for Europe, we expect that North American Fiat 500 will include similar updates when it debuts.

2017 Hyundai Elantra Eco

The 2017 Hyundai Elantra Eco is designed with fuel economy in mind. The Korean automaker is claiming 32mpg in the city and 40mpg on the highway. To get to that type of fuel efficiency, the new Elantra Eco uses a fuel sipping 1.4L turbo engine producing 128hp and 156ft/lb of torque. It’s not the most powerful thing, but the torque makes it peppy. Add on top of that newly designed aero and low rolling resistance tires, the Elantra become quite the eco friendly option, especially compared to its brother.

The Elantra Eco is priced at $21,485 USD which slots it in between the standard Elantra and the top limited model. The Elantra Eco will hit the showroom floor in late summer.

2017 Fiat 124 Spider

Fiat’s all new 124 Spider is a brilliant little car. The small little convertible has a sporty visual appeal and a sporty underpinnings to make it a fun little car to boot around in. The 124 Spider packs a 1.4L turbo four cylinder motor that produces 160hp and 184lb/ft of torque. The Abarth version get a slight power bump up to 165hp.

The official pricing has been released by Fiat and it’s a very tempting starting rate of $25,990 USD with the Abarth pushing the price to $29,190 USD. Interested customers can choose between various trim levels for an additional cost.

Either way, the Fiat 124 Spider is a beautiful little car which packs just enough power to make it a economical but fun drive!

Audi A5 Coupe Spied

Audi released their A5 coupe to the world back in 2008 and the 8 years its been in production is starting to take a tool on its once good looks. Don’t get me wrong, the A5 is still a beautiful car, and its aging gracefully, but aging nonetheless. So Audi fans have been anxiously waiting for the next generation A5 to make its debut which is said to be June 2 in Ingolstadt, Germany.

The new Audi A5 will be built on the new MLB Evo platform which will be lighter and more rigid than the previous platform. With a combination of aluminum and high-strength steel, the new platform will help control weight and at the same time offer better handling characteristics for the next generation car.

The car to debut on June 2 will likely be the coupe variant but we should expect to see a convertible and sportback version of the A5 to follow not too long after.

Volkswagen Truck Not Destined for Canada

Volkswagen has been in the game of making trucks for quite some time, but ever since they stopped production of their mk1 golf trucks back in the 80’s, there hasn’t been another Volkswagen truck on Canadian soil. Seeing as how there is just a high of demand for trucks as there is for SUVs in Canada, Volkswagen should really consider taking a bite out of that pie.

Volkswagen’s Amarok is a modern day four door pick up truck that’s built for utility. The newest model is coming with more power, a refreshed look to bring it up to modern day Volkswagen design. The front of the truck borrows a lot of design elements from the Tiguan which makes this version slightly softer around the edges in comparison to the outgoing model it replaces. Headlight technology has been enhanced with the use of bi-xenon headlights and LED daytime running lights.

If this truck made its way to Canada, it would surely be a good seller, but alas, it most likely won’t ever be available to us.

All New 2017 Audi TT RS

The long wait for Audi’s new TT is now over, or more precisely, the TT RS. Spy photos of the TT RS has been floating around the internet for a while now, but the covers were finally pulled off the production car at the Beijing Auto Show.

The latest generation TT RS will be utilizing a tuned 5 cylinder turbo motor good for 400hp and 354lb/ft of torque. Power is delivered to all four wheels and allows the TT RS to sprint to 100km/h in a mere 3.7 seconds.

The TT RS receives an all new aero package as well. The front bumper has been beefed up with larger intakes, and an integrated lower splitter. The fender lines have been flared out but maintains an aggressive overall stance. The rear decklid has a fixed rear wing.

We can’t wait to see these cars hit the show room floor which should be some time next year. Pricing should start around the $55,000USD range.
