Ford Recalls 2014-2015 Explorer

Ford has issued a recall on some of their 2014-2015 Ford Explorer and 2014 Ford Police Interceptor Utility vehicles. The problem has been isolated to the rear suspension toe links which might have gone through incorrect welding during production which could cause fractures in the part.

So far one accident has been linked to this recall. When the suspension part fails, it can result in noises coming from the rear suspension, increased resistance during steering, or a worse case is a loss of steering control, which all can increase the risk of an accident.

Currently, the recall affects 81,036 Ford Explorers with a build year of 2014 and also Ford’s Police Interceptor Utility vehicles. Of those vehicles, 4,615 cars reside in Canada. If you own one of these vehicles Ford will notify you soon on the recall. Or alternatively, we would also recommend you contact your local dealers for more information.

GM Recalls Silverado for Seatbelt Issue

2015 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 HD LTZ crew cab pickup

General Motors has issued a recall on 895,232 2014-2015 Silverados and GMC Sierra 1500 pickups in the US. The problem has been identified as a faulty steel cable that connects the seatbelt to the car. With prolonged use and repeated bending the part can fail.

So far, no injuries or deaths have been linked to this recall. GM has issued a fix for the seatbelt issue and dealers will inspect and replace the entire seatbelt tensioner assembly as required.

Owners of these vehicles are encouraged to contact their local dealers for more information as GM has not yet began their recall campaign.

Porsche Recalls 800,000 SUV for Brake Pedal

Volkswagen and the Porsche group has issued a recall for approximately 800,000 Touaregs and Cayenne SUVs globally. The issue has been identified as a faulty component on the brake pedal assembly, specifically a circlip that could potentially come loose on the bearing bracket for the pedals. Currently, 391,000 Touaregs and 409,477 Cayennes with a build date between 2011 and 2016 are impacted by the recall.

If the circlip comes loose, the brake pedal could possibly lose its functionality. No accidents or deaths have been linked to the recall at this time. Owners of impacted vehicles are urged to contact their local dealership for more information.

Nissan Rogue Recalled for Faulty Fuel Pump

Nissan has issued a recall which impacts approximately 76,000 Rogue which were built in 2014. This is the second recall for the same issue that was identified last year, except this new recall covers the entire range of vehicles with a 2014 build date.

The issue has been identified as poor nickel plating on components inside the fuel pump. The poorly plated parts may begin to deteriorate and cause pieces of the coating to stop the fuel pump impellers from spinning. Once the fuel pump stops functioning, the Rogue will not be able to start, or potentially stall while on the road.

Currently, no accidents of deaths have been linked to this recall campaign. If you own a Rogue with a build year of 2014, contact your local dealers immediately and schedule in a service for the recall. Dealers will replace the faulty fuel pump at no cost to owners.

Nissan Recalls 870,000 Vehicles

Nissan Motor Co. has issued a statement to recall about 870,000 vehicles in the United States and Canada. The issue has been identified as a potentially faulty hood latch. This isn’t the first time Nissan has recalled their vehicles for such an issue. More specifically, this is the third time the manufacturer has had to issue a recall of this nature since 2014.

The impacted vehicle is the Nissan Altima which were built between 2013-2015. The hood latch, specifically the secondary hood latch, may not close properly and leave the hood unlatched due to production issues with a rust coating. When the hatch is not closed properly, this could lead to the hood opening while driving which restricts drivers view of the road and may cause an accident.

Of the 870,000 vehicles identified in North America, 24,895 vehicles are located in Canada with the same problem. Starting in February, owners can schedule their vehicles into a local dealer where the hood latch will be replaced with a new unit.
For additional information, we encourage owners to get into contact with their local dealers.

Over 121,000 Dodge Darts Recalled

More than 121,000 Dodge Dart sedans manufactured between 2013 and 2014 are being recalled by Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. There is a problem with the vehicle’s braking system which could increase the risk of accidents. Details indicate the recall is due to a flawed vacuum tube which decreases the performance of the vehicle’s brake-assist system.

Fiat Chrysler states “some 2013 and 2014 models may have a brake-booster vacuum-tube routing that inadvertently allows oil to reach the brake booster diaphragm, if ever the vacuum-pump check valve fails. Oil may degrade the diaphragm and lead to a loss of brake-assist – a feature that helps reduce stopping distances.” Owners will notice that it takes much more effort to push the brake pedal and possibly a “pop sound consistent with a vacuum leak”. The braking system itself is not affected, just the brake assist system.

The recall is specific to both 2.0L and 2.4L equipped Dodge Darts manufactured between 2013 and 2014 built before January 24, 2014. So far, seven accidents have been recorded and two injuries have been associated to this recall.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles will issue a recall notice to owners with further instructions on taking their vehicles in to their local dealers for the recall service. Owners can expect the service to include an inspection and replacement of the faulty vacuum tube. Additionally, the vacuum pump, brake booster, and master cylinder could possibly be replaced.

If you own a vehicle that falls within the manufacturer date range, or if you aren’t sure if your vehicle is affected by this recall, you are encouraged to call your local dealers or Fiat Chrysler’s Customer Information Center at 800-853-1403.

Ferrari’s Next Supercar: The Ferrari LaFerrari

Sure, the name sounds rather silly, but there is no hiding the fact that the Ferrari Enzo’s replacement, oddly named the Ferrari LaFerrari, is a technological tour de force. 963hp out of a F1 derived Hybrid KERS drivetrain. A carbon fibre chassis designed by F1 engineers, including the legendary Rory Byrne. Active Aerodynamic components to allow the most efficient downforce to drag ratio at any speed. All of this combine to create the fastest Ferrari road car to come out of Maranello.

Back in 2011, Ferrari launched their F1 race car, named the Ferrari F150 to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Italy’s unification. Ford, which has a storied history with Ferrari in the 60’s, happens to own the trademark to the F150 name for their line of trucks and threatened to sue. Ferrari had no choice but to rename their F1 car to the Ferrari 150° Italia. So it’s rather interesting that the Enzo’s replacement started off with the F150 as it’s codename, because there is no way that it would make it to production. Like the 2011 F1 competitor with the awkward name, the car we see here has been named the LaFerrari.
