Nissan’s next generation Leaf is confirmed to be getting a 60-kWh battery pack which will double it’s driving range. This is big news for the company’s electric vehicle as the race for range continues across automakers. Kazuo Yajima, Nissan’s global director of EV and HEV engineering, announced publically that the new Leaf will be produced, but there is no timing around when the vehicle will hit the market.

Currently the Leaf utilizes a 24 kWh battery pack which produced less than desirable driving range. The 60-kWh pack as debuted at EVS29, a battery technology conference and Nissan is stating that the driving range will be somewhere in the 210-220 miles range depending on driving conditions. The new Leaf will put Nissan in the EV race and become highly competitive with other manufacturers.
