Mazda has finally brought the new Mazda 6 to the North American market and is showing it off at the LA Auto Show that is opening its doors to the public today. Carrying the automakers latest KODO “Soul of Motion” design language, Mazda’s entry into the competitive family sedan market packs a one-two punch to win the hearts of car shoppers when it arrives in early 2013.

As a family sedan it comes with no surprise that the tuner market isn’t being targeted. The 2.5L 4-cylinder engine that produces 184hp and 185 ft/lb of torque runs at a really high 13:1 compression ratio. A turbo diesel engine, available later in the year, will also be offered pumping out uhh wait, Mazda is choosing not to provide power numbers for their 2.2L turbo diesel powerplant.

In fact Mazda isn’t announcing standard features, option packages or pricing until closer to the release date but one feature they did talk about that we’ll see on the new Mazda6 is what they call i-ELOOP or “Intelligent Energy Loop”. It is their new regenerative braking system that is making its production vehicle debut. What sets the i-ELOOP apart from other regenerative braking systems is that instead of storing the regenerated energy in a bulky battery, Mazda’s system is the first to utilize a capacitor.

Stay tuned for final specs as well as options and pricing for the 2014 Mazda6 but in the mean time check out the gallery below for more pictures!
