Kurt Browning sets home ablaze drying Porsche with leaf blower

September 2nd, 2010

A fire tore through Kurt Browning’s home in
Toronto’sForestHillneighbourhoodyesterday morning, sending 80
firefighters scrambling to battle the blaze. The 44-year-old
Canadian figure skater was in the home with his son, a painter and
several pets when a car caught on fire in the garage. Mr. Browning
stood by as flames ripped through two floors and eventually caused
the roof to collapse. Neighbours gathered across street as pillars
of smoke and fire blanketed the house. “No one was going near Kurt
because we didn’t know what to do,” said neighbour Lalitha
Poonasamy. A fire official would not confirm earlier reports that an
unattended leaf blower being used to dry the seats of Mr. Browning’s
convertible sports car caused the fire, saying the investigation was
ongoing.
