Jeep Drops Takata Airbags from Production Cars

Posted by: Xavier Kwan onJune 22nd, 2016

By now we are all aware of the airbag crisis facing the Takata company. The number of recalls mounting as a result of Takata’s exploding airbag inflators continue to climb. And as those numbers go up, so are the number of manufacturers dropping the Japanese company as an airbag inflator supplier.

Most recently, FCA has announced that they will be dropping Takata as a supplier. The change will happen gradually as FCA reduces the number of cars in their lineup using the Japanese inflators and moving to another brand. Currently, only the 2016 Jeep Wrangler still continues to use Takata inflators in their passenger-side airbags.

FCA is looking to cease using the Takata inflator in the Jeep Wrangler starting next week. Any car that currently is sold new which has the Takata inflator will be fully disclosed to the customer and they will be informed about a recall which will fix their airbag.
