2017 Chevy Cruze Hatchback Launches in Detroit

The hatchback sector is continuing its upwards momentum in American and Chevrolet is going to catch a ride on that gravy train. Today, Chevrolet took to the 2016 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) to debut their Cruze Hatchback. With a North American market that has a demanding appetite for crossovers and SUVs, Chevy’s Cruze gives buyers the option of the utility of a crossover/SUV in a small package of a hatchback.

The Cruze is based off of the same platform as the sedan which offers a 106.3-inch wheel base, albeit with increased cargo room. The hatchback provides 22.7 cubic feet of cargo space which can expand to 42 cubic feet once the rear seats are folded down. That’s 32.4 cubic feet more space than the sedan model.

Chevrolet has chosen a 1.4L turbo motor to power the Cruze. The powerplant is expected to produce 153 hp and 177 lb-ft of torque. The Cruze sedan is not a heavy car to begin with, but the hatchback model sheds another 200lb of weight which packages well with the motor choice. Transmissions options will be either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic.

Pricing of the Cruze hatchback is not yet available, but if pricing of the sedan is any indication, the Cruze hatchback will be a great option in the entry level hatchback vehicles.
