Calgary Bait Car Program Shows Early Success

The Calgary Bait Car Program which was launched late last year is already showing some great results. According to the Calgary Police, there were 670 vehicles stolen in the first two months of 2009, compared to 874 during the same two month period in 2008. For the first four months of operating in Calgary, the Bait Car Program has seen monthly reductions in car thefts range from 17% up to 32%.

The actual vehicles that are being used as part of the Bait Car Program have not been announced, but its a safe bet that most of the vehicles are a part of the Top 10 most stolen vehicles list.

I guess we’ll see what vehicles are being used in Calgary when and if they release videos as part of their educational campaign. Nothing is a bigger deterrent than public humiliation and if everyone enjoys the videos as much as I do, I see continued success for the Bait Car Program here in Calgary.
