Will Acura show Updated NSX Concept in Detroit?

The new Acura NSX has probably been the subject of more hype than any other vehicle save the Toyobaru FR-S/BRZ. We were teased with an announcement of a new NSX in ‘07, but it became a victim of the economic crisis in ‘08. In 2010 Honda developed a new SuperGT car, the HSV-010 GT, and we all thought the production version would wear the NSX badge but a production version never came. In early 2011 Honda chairman Takanobu Ito said they were developing the NSX again, this time with a hybrid drivetrain. In September of that year we then saw Iron Man driving a mysterious Acura in The Avengers. An Acura which, despite being a convertible, bore a striking resemblance to renderings of the elusive supercar we’d seen floating around the internet.

But then, in January 2012 at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Acura unveiled the official NSX concept car with a 2015 model year release date and the automotive world let out a sigh of relief. Here we had, in the (aluminum) flesh, something to look forward to.

It’s been almost a year since that concept was revealed and, worryingly, there hasn’t been much buzz coming out of Honda. So why am I talking about it today? Because it’s being rumoured that the production model will be hitting Detroit for the 2013 North American International Auto Show in January and I need to make sure that everybody else is as excited as I am. With 50 new production models being revealed at the 2013 NAIAS there’s a good chance the NSX is among them and, if it isn’t, I’ll be too distracted by other things to be disappointed.

Update: Yes, yes they will: Acura NSX Concept II
