2014 Lexus IS F Sport, IS 300h Hybrid

Today Lexus officially unveiled the next-generation IS sedan by rolling out a white IS 350 F Sport model out in a flashy production in the Riverview ballroom at the Cobo Center. Reviews were mixed when Lexus released pictures last week ahead of the North American International Auto Show and today’s reveal likely won’t do much to change that.

The IS is available as two models in North America, an IS 250 and IS 350. Both are available in either RWD or AWD configurations. In Japan, the IS will also be available as a hybrid IS 300h model which was also shown off here in Detroit.

In terms of design, both models are quite similar. The IS 300h has a slightly modified grill with slats on the upper portion instead of the plain honeycomb one on the other models. Both still retain the hourglass shape though. The rear diffuser is also slightly different, and better in my opinion, on the hybrid. Performance figures were not shared but Lexus Group Vice President Mark Templin did emphasize all the suspension tuning that the new IS had undergone during its development on the ring and Fuji Raceway. More details are expected to come out later this year.
